The ’96 Tokyo A.C. Rugby Sevens Training Jersey by HBN Sport*
A little more flair, as rugby jerseys used to have.
Taking its cues from the great sevens kits of the 1990s, particularly Fiji’s ’96 jersey, the Tokyo Athletic Club Rugby Training Jersey looks back to a time when something made for the pitch could just as easily find its way onto the street.
Cut from a custom cotton-weave fabric, it features an embroidered HBN Sport* chest logo, screen-printed Japanese “Human” graphic through the centre, oversized back number and Japanese flag at the neck. The irregular stripe pattern gives it the character of an old training jersey discovered rather than designed.
Wear it as intended, with running shorts and trainers, or take it somewhere else entirely with army green herringbone trousers and worn-in loafers. On the pitch, off the pitch, and perhaps best somewhere in between.
A rugby shirt reinterpreted for the city, bringing a little of the sport’s old flair back with it.
